2016 McGrath Cup & Munster Senior Hurling League - 2015-12-04 15:13:00

Munster GAA announced on Thursday night that the 2016 McGrath Cup and Munster Senior Hurling League would be confined to inter-county teams only.

In previous seasons, third-level teams from Munster have featured in the pre-season competitions alongside inter-county teams, but a statement released by the Munster Council stated: "It was agreed at Munster Council tonight that both the McGrath Cup Senior Football and Munster Senior Hurling League competitions would be confined to inter-county teams only."

Details on the draw for the 2016 McGrath Cup will be announced by Munster in the coming days. The competition will be organised in two groups of three counties with Kerry and Cork seeded in separate groups. The three counties in each group will play each other over three weekends and the group winners will play in the final.

Details were also announced on the Munster Senior Hurling League, a slight re-branding of what was previously known as the Waterford Crystal Cup.

Tipperary will not take part in the competition, but Kerry, Cork, Limerick, Clare and Waterford will all take part. The competition will be organised whereby all counties play each other over five weekends and the two top teams will play in the final.
