FOOTBALL SQUADS SHINE AT TOURNAMENT WEEKEND
The weekend of July 4th saw the Rebel Óg Football squads test their character when competing in the various Munster Tournaments at u14, u15 & u16. It proved to be a very fruitful outing for all age groups with silverware an added bonus at all levels along with valubale learning experiences for the players.

The u14 squads were in Waterford where the Rebel Óg East squad won the Plate Competition having being beaten by South Kerry in their opening game before going on to beat Limerick and North Kerry.  The Rebel Óg West squad had good wins over Tipperary A & Clare before being beaten by Tipperary B in the semi final of the main competition. While both squads were missing some players, the squads have learned a lot and this was to the fore when both squads beat their Dublin counterparts in a follow up challenge games on July 26th.

The u15 squads were split in to “Red” and “White”. The Red squad beat Waterford and Kerry North before beating our White squad in the final. The White team had a harder path to the final beating Limerick & Kerry South. It was a great achievement in getting both teams to the final and this was recognised in the past week with this squad receiving the Rebel Óg Award for July. The group followed up with further wins in games VS Dublin South and Dublin North on July 26th.

The u 16 sqad split in to “Corcaigh” and “Cork” for their meeting in the first round in Limerick. “Cork” were victorious and then went on to an excellent win Vs Kerry North before losing to Kerry South in the final. The “Corcaigh” squad defeated Limerick in the semi final of the Plate before going on to defeat a tough Tipperary side in the final.

On the weekend of July 26th, the u 14 and u 15 squads both played Dublin in challenge games. Both groups played very well and all squads won their games and were well over the Dublin North and
Dublin South squads. The work being put in to the teams is phenomenal and the mentors of the squads (both hurling and football) deserve immense credit.  The hurling squads were not playing competition but nonetheless were also active with training sessions while the u 14s played Waterford and
the u 15s played Limerick in challenge games.
