Last Saturday night the club celebrated the success of 1997 which was one of the most successful years for the club laying the foundations of the future success of the club both on and off the pitch.

John O’Donoghue Chairman opened the proceeding s by welcoming everyone and giving a brief account of the year.   He then made a presentation to Sean Twomey a member of the Cork u17 All Ireland wining team.

Kevin & Diarmuid introduced the current Junior Hurlers winners of the Carrigdhoun League.  John presented their medals.  Seamus Hayes, Vincent Hurley , Niall & David Murphy were members of the panel.

John then made a presentation to the officers of 1997 – Sean Murphy, John Quinn, Ann Corcoran & Noreen Quinn.

Vincent introduced the U16 County Hurling Championship panel giving a run down on the games and players.  He mentioned how Niall won the Christy Ring Trophy for the best U16 hurler in the county and he played an U16 and U21 championship game in the same day.  Vincent introduced Sean O’Riordain who was the club’s underage trainer at the time.  Sean spoke of the friendships he as made in the parish and How the late Brendan Murphy was the first contact he has with the club.

Neilie and Donie Nyhan introduced the Junior Footballers who won the first Carrigdhoun Football Championship.  Neilie spoke of how Declan Murray (a football selector this year ) drew the first game in the final with a free from 50 yards out.

Niall introducted the U21 hurlers.  Courceys are the only south east club to have won this county championship.  This win was remarkable considering that the club had lost the county junior hurling final the previous Sunday to Castlelyons.  Over half the U21 team started on the Junior Hurling final team.  On the Tuesday night there was a full club turnout for training.  He also praised Kevin Kehily for his training methods during 1997 as their fitness helped their win.  He mentioned Seamus Hayes who history will rate him as one of the best hurlers from Courcies.  Brian Hayes Kilkerran who played in 7 County Finals from start to finish.  Connie O’Regan came home every weekend from Southhampton by bus, train, tube and plane.  Seamus Hurley who came down from Clare for the night had 4 medals from that year he was minor, U21, Junior hurling goalkeeper and on the football team.  Brian Murphy came from Dublin.  Adrain Collins send a video message from ‘down under’.
